Scholarships

The Department of Food Science offers scholarships to incoming freshmen, transfer students and current students ranging from $500-$1500 for the academic year. Communication about scholarship announcements and deadlines are sent via-email.

Food Science Departmental Scholarship Applications have the same deadline as Bumpers College Scholarship Applications.  

Food Science Majors should also complete ONE of the following Food Science departmental applications:

Name of Scholarship CRITERIA 
Brooks, Jim "J. B." Preference to FDSC graduate student specializing in fruits/vegetables.  Then given to well qualified undergrads who have done or plan to do work with frutis/vegetables.
Food Science General  FDSC majors
Gerber Endowed Food Science, Vegetable Horticulture, Nutrition/Dietetics majors (preference to students with interest in pediatric nutrition); all levels - 4 $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year  (a department will get 2 scholarships every 3rd year)
Kattan, Ahmed A. FDSC undergraduates;can be more than one scholarship per year
McKee Corporation No restrictions, may be awarded from Freshman to Graduate students.
Sharp, Carolyn & Roy FDSC majors - show academic excellence & financial need
Steele, Joe & Gretchen FDSC major
FDSC Alumni FDSC major
White, John & Trannye Six equal scholarships - one for each of the following, AEED, BAEG, ENTO, FDSC, HORT, PLPA (amount depends on available funds); need a priority; prefer it not be renewed

Thanks to the support of our generous scholarship donors, Bumpers College was able to provide approximately $730,000 to more than 370 students last year to help support their dreams and professional aspirations. 

 

The deadline to apply for 2013-2014 academic year scholarships closed February 1, 2013.

Information for Students

  • Applications will be reviewed by the college scholarship committee which is comprised of members representing all departments within Bumpers College.
  • Incoming freshmen and new transfer students will begin receiving notifications in late March via mailed letters.
  • Current UofA students will receive notification via their university email only beginning in late April.  Please check your email regularly.
